A high-tech turbocharger system for the high-tech engine of the SLS: The BRABUS engine engineers have designed a state-of-the-art twin turbo system for the fast-revving eight-cylinder four-valve engine of the SLS. The high-performance exhaust manifolds are optimized for exhaust-gas flow and were custom-developed for this sports car. They drive the two turbochargers. The chargers themselves are another BRABUS custom development. For faster response and better efficiency both chargers feature an air diverter valve.

V-engines are normally fitted with two right-turning chargers, which entails drawbacks for the response characteristics. To eliminate these drawbacks the BRABUS engineers have developed the B63 bi-turbo system with a left-turning charger for the left side of the engine. That allows the turbine and its inlet to be designed for perfect gas flow and gas dynamics. The result is an outstanding engine with an exemplary power curve.

The BRABUS engine conversion also includes a generously dimensioned intercooling system with two water-to-air heat exchangers. The dual-flow intake manifold gets its combustion air through a package-optimized air filter housing and high-performance air filters. The company engine shop also modifies the inner workings of the engine that like all BRABUS engines is lubricated exclusively with fully-synthetic ARAL high-performance motor oil. Specially manufactured BRABUS forged pistons reduce the compression ratio to 9.0:1.

The Covini C6W is the world’s first six-wheeled supercar. C6W is an Italian Sports Cars 2-seat, 2-door sports coupé with a removable roof section. The manufacturer of the Covini Sports Cars C6W  announced that the model is ready for production.

Inspiration for the car was taken from the 1976 Tyrrell P34, which had two pairs of smaller front wheels, a principle applied to the C6W. The project was started in 1974 but abandoned shortly after, and left dormant into the 1980s due to the lack of availability of low-profile tires at the time.

The E-Cell features a lithium-ion polymer battery pack and electric motors which produce 392 kW (526 bhp / 533 PS) and 880 Nm (649 lb-ft) of torque. That is enough to propel the SLS AMG E-Cell from 0-62 mph in 4.0 seconds, compared to 3.8 seconds in the standard SLS.

The gullwing model accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4 seconds – which almost puts it on the same high level as the SLS AMG with 6.3-litre V8 engine developing 420 kW (571 hp), which can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The SLS AMG E-CELL drive incorporates a liquid-cooled high-voltage lithium-ion battery featuring a modular design with an energy content of 48 kWh and a capacity of 40 Ah. The maximum electric load potential of the battery, which consists of 324 lithium-ion polymer cells, is 480 kW, which is an absolute best value in the automotive sector.

A revised center console has a ten-inch touch-screen infotainment system, which runs audio, climate and navigation functions. The ten-spoke wheels are staggered 19-inch front and 20 inch rear tire wearing 265/35 and 295/30. For its interiors, the car gets leather racing seats and a Magneti Marelli designed sat-nav system. Providing telemetry, the sat-nav display can show engine revs, vehicle speed and the gear engaged. By setting it to “Track” mode, the screen displays its position on the track if the car is on a circuit in the SD card’s memory. These telemetry results can be downloaded later.

The third function – Configuration – makes it possible to store telemetric data for a route and associate them with a personalized session identified by the driver’s name, circuit and date. Stored information can be easily retrieved and analyzed later with the fourth, Analysis, function.

The first shake-down has been held at Fiorano of a very special one-off, the Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta, built for an American client.

From the initial sketches to the final, road-legal car took just 14 months. As the client took delivery of the car at Fiorano his excitement was understandable: "This is the most special Christmas present of my life."
